“We don’t stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing”. When I read this on a blog, it was a huge reality check for me.
As time goes by, life demands much from us and we often don’t invest the time in ourselves that we need to. Life brings many trials that can be navigated well if we are prepared physically, spiritually and mentally.
As I head into my 40s, I feel the need to hold on to simple things I love dearly from my youth like sleeping well at night, running out to get the mail without getting winded and playing volleyball at a picnic without needing a heating pad at the end of the day. The reality is that for all the sports I played and all the outdoor activity I had in my youth, it takes time and effort to maintain our fitness and our health in our busy lives.
After years of an office bound career and the birth of our 4th child, I found myself more tired and achy, less flexible and less capable of dealing with stress. I pursued answers through many medical professionals but with no conclusive diagnosis. I continued to feel God revealing the need for more exercise, better sleep and improved overall health. I have also begun to acknowledge many people of all ages in my life are suffering with illnesses and life challenges that could have been prevented or at least minimized through the pursuit and maintenance of better health. Thus, my journey began to become better educated and teach others to improve their heath through greater level of fitness.
Now, the more I learn, the more I want to learn and share with others! I have the ACMS Personal Trainer certification and I continually study exercise programs, nutrition and health related topics.
The benefits of exercise are as numerous as the excuses not to do anything. However, I am a walking testimony to many of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and that having priorities of faith, family and fitness keeps my life in balance!
As we work together you will see that I place equal importance on improving strength, movement and endurance while finding activities that are enjoyable. No matter where you are in life or fitness level, we can build goals together to improve your overall health!
Mickey Mantle was quoted as saying “If I’d known I would live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself”.
